What is SCA?

SCA (Strong Customer Authentication) provides an additional layer of security, in this case by requiring Two-Factor Authentication, a process based on the use of two or more secure elements. You are probably familiar with using just your personal password to sign in to your mobile banking account, but with Two-Factor Authentication you’ll need either confirmation from a paired device or a code sent to your phone by SMS. For the Byblos Bank Europe Mobile Banking Application, the SCA is applied upon registering your mobile banking account on the Salt Edge Authenticator app, followed by a one-time password (OTP) received on your mobile number via SMS.

Why is SCA being introduced?

SCA is being introduced as part of the revised European Payments Services Directive (PSD2), which applies to all European financial institutions. The objective of PSD2 is to enhance protection for customers’ data and account security

What do you need to know?

First, make sure you have updated your Byblos Bank Europe Mobile Banking App to the newest version (PSD2 release).

What are the major changes on the new mobile banking app release?

  • When you first log into your Byblos Bank Europe Mobile Banking App after updating to the PSD2 release, you also will be asked to download the Salt Edge Authenticator app from this webpage.
  • You also will be asked to register your credentials on Salt Edge Authenticator by either scanning a QR code (if the above webpage is accessed from a PC) or accessing the deep-link (if accessed from mobile browser).
  • Following successful registration on Salt Edge Authenticator, you also will be asked to confirm a push notification (generated by Salt Edge) received on your device upon your first-time login to the updated Mobile Banking App.
  • Subsequent Mobile Banking logins will not require push notification approvals.
